Resilience was found and still works with a strong interdisciplinary group of researchers: Gertjan Becx, Joep van den Broek and Guido van Hofwegen. Together they cover a wide range of scientific disciplines: from social anthropology to mathematics and from soil science to development economics.
Gertjan
Becx is a trained irrigation specialist, and is currently
undertaking an extra masters in development economics. Gertjan is
currently managing a team of 17 students which are evaluating the Ghana
school feeding programme. Gertjan did research in Bangladesh on
evaluating large-scale irrigation schemes, Subsequently he worked
on paddy rice fields at the International Rice Research Institute

Joep van den Broek
is a soil scientist and sociologist with special interest in human-environment
relationships. Joep worked in Kenya on soil management practices of small-scale
farmers and in Peru on developing a practical method to assess terracing
effects. More recently he specialized on agricultural and environmental

Guido van Hofwegen is currently facilitating the production of cheap and high quality water filters in Tsunami devasted Banda Aceh. Besides that he is developing discussion support models and computer games for training on negotiation. He is also initiator and advisor of Aceh Adventure, a hike and bicycle tour organizer. Guido van Hofwegen is a trained tropical land use specialist with a specific interest in global food security, food production systems and individual based modelling. Arjen Oord is a hydrogeologist, specialised in groundwater related issues. He has worked on local and regional groundwater studies such as assessing the long term effects of climate change, a rising sea level and effect of large scale groundwater abstraction on the (ground)water system. Furthermore, he has conducted extensive research on the use of geophysical exploration methods in hydrological studies for rural water supply in Uganda. Wouter Beekman is a trained irrigation engineer with a special interest in design and operation of irrigation systems. Wouter researched farmer’s participation in irrigation design and project implementation in Bolivia. Later on, he redesigned the Munda Munda irrigation system in Mozambique. Subsequently Wouter modeled the long wave characteristics of the Licungo River in Mozambique as well as the interaction between surface and groundwater flow of the tropical peat lands on Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. Hilke Engels is a trained social anthropologist with special interest in identity and violence matters. Hilke researched resilience among the middle class and social economically deprived in the Katrina aftermath in New Orleans, through in-depth interviewing and participant observation. At the moment, she is composing a reader for third year students in disaster studies for Wageningen University.
Lieselotte Heederik is a development specialist with special interest in human rights, conflict prevention, livelihoods and water and sanitation. Lieselotte has great knowledge of Eastern Europe where she worked in Agriculture, micro Credits and human rights. Furthermore, Lieselotte was involved in several development projects in Aceh, Indonesia. Currently, Lieselotte is advising Resilience on its Water and Sanitation programmes in Aceh.
Janwillem Liebrand focusses on natural resources management, and is specialised on irrigation and watermanagement. Janwillem is currently preparing a PhD proposal at the Irrigation and Water Engineering Group of Wageningen University and Research centre. He has worked in India, the Philippines, South-Africa and is an expert in water rights and gender. CV
Joris van der Kamp is a a soil scienties. Joris is working as a carbon credit specialist for Soil and More and is a part-time adviser to Resiliene. Joris coordinated a mission of 18 students which evaluated the Ghana school feeding programe. He worked in Indonesia on soil vegetation/land use relations with a main focus on soil carbon. CV
Margriet is a trained rural sociologist with ample research experience in Ghana and other developing countries. Margriet has special interest in children, schools and their role in rural development. Besides that, she has managed several projects aiming at enforcing democracy and civil society in central and eastern European countries. Margriet is a strong moderator, she possesses great organizational skills and she is a highly social person.
Michiel is an engineer in tropical land use. He is specialized in soil conservation and in plant production systems. Michiel has research experience in Peru. Besides his work for Resilience he works as a university lecturer at the University of Leuven. His main responsibility is designing new ways of problem oriented group learning and teaching. CV
Dirk van Apeldoorn is a PhD candidate. His research focusses on the dynamics of agro-ecosystems and especially the resilience of these systems. Dirk use complex system thinking in trying to understand what is happening in rural areas in the Netherlands and Zimbabwe. Besides research Dirk spends time on developping faster and more comfortable bikes: recumbents.
Frank van den Weert is an experienced water engineer, he was involved in numerous international water management projects and is a specialist in GIS and geohydrology. CV
